pretty self explanatory.
Cathode ray tubes were prominent throughtout the 20th century as the most popular form of display, but do you know the history of them? Cathode rays were discovered 1858 by two german physicists named Julius Plücker and Johann Wilhelm Hittorf. Hittorf one day noticed that some mysterious rays were being emmited by the cathode (negative electrode) on the glowing walls of the inside of a tube, and that they would cast shadows on the inside of the tube. In 1890 a man named Arthur Scuster would demonstrate (show) how they could be manipulated by an electric field, And William Crookes demonstrated that they could be deflected by a magnetic field. In 1897 the earliest CRT was made (it was a cold cathode diode) It was nearly identical to the older ones except for the fact that the screen was coated in phosphors. And in 1922 the first commerically sold CRT used a hot cathode instead. (this is the worst thing every written)
